All-Electric Overlanding Has Arrived: GMC Hummer EV EarthCruiser Upfit
After plenty of hype built up over the last few months, it’s finally here: the EarthCruiser Hummer EV Camper. It’s an all-electric carbon fiber pop-top truck camper on an all-electric off-road capable truck.
Oregon-based overland camper builder EarthCruiser partnered with Hummer to design the vehicle, which makes its public debut this weekend at the Overland Expo Mountain West in Loveland, Colo.
Dubbed the “GMC Hummer EV EarthCruiser upfit,” the vehicle combines an all-electric Hummer pickup with a full-featured EarthCruiser truck camper. That means it produces zero emissions from the tailpipe while still offering a powerful truck and a cozy camper with plenty of modern features.
“We are proud to work with GMC on the design and manufacturing of such an exceptional product. It feels right, it feels like it belongs,” EarthCruiser CEO and founder Lance Gillies said in a press release. “Using our years of overlanding expertise, we have ensured nothing is out of place, unnecessary or wasted in this vehicle.”

EarthCruiser clearly wanted to draw attention with this overlanding beast, adding plenty of features for a modern camping experience.
In essence, it’s a carbon fiber camper integrated into the chassis of the GMC Hummer EV, which was released last year to lots of media fanfare. In GearJunkie’s 2022 review, we said the much-lauded “supertruck” was a mixed bag. On one hand, it’s “a lifestyle vehicle that exemplifies the latest in technology.” However, it also “lacked in driver ergonomics” and had a “barely usable truck bed.”
But with this new overlanding upfit, the truck bed is now filled by a carbon fiber house from EarthCruiser. It comes with plenty of creature comforts never before found on an off-road-capable, all-electric vehicle.
