Citroën has introduced its latest concept camper van, the Citroën Type Holidays, and one thing is certain: It’s gonna turn heads. While it’s not available quite yet, the company has indicated that this van is a preview of a new series of campers to be launched by the end of this year.

It’s immediately apparent from the external design that the Type Holidays draws inspiration from the classic Citroën H Van of the late 1940s. The new ride channels the vintage aesthetics of that panel van once ubiquitous throughout Europe.

However, beneath that retro façade, the camper is essentially a compact version of the Citroën SpaceTourer MPV. That vehicle has both diesel and electric versions, but the Type Holidays will likely come with a diesel engine.

As this is currently a prototype with a tentative release date, Citroën still has time to update the design. But if Citroën releases the camper with all the features below, it could become a tempting option for van lifers looking for a compact vehicle with many of the features of its larger cousins.

Citroën Camper Van Concept: Features

In a press release, Citroën said it wanted to showcase its heritage by presenting a SpaceTourer vehicle in the guise of a Type H. The exterior comes from Italian coach-builder Caselani, which has already created other “neo-retro” body styles, the company said.

“Van life is a different way of traveling,” the company said in the press release. “So with a vehicle like the Type Holidays teaser that really stands out from the crowd, you’re in for a real treat.”

With a height of just over 6 feet, yet offering space for four adults, this compact camper would easily maneuver through parking garages and drive-throughs.

Despite its modest size, the Type Holidays has two distinct sleeping areas, one of which doubles as the rear bench seat. The other is situated in a pop-up roof, which also allows enough room for standing upright inside the van.

Among the other features, the Type Holidays comes with a kitchenette, including a sink, fridge, and stove. There are two sliding doors, which allow for greater ventilation, and a Webasto heater ensures a warm interior during colder periods. Storage options also seem plentiful, with various cupboards complemented by a foldable table suitable for both dining and work.

The front seats can swivel, maximizing rear cabin space. Furthermore, the vehicle includes a 25L freshwater tank linked to a shower head and a detachable toilet.

Citroën Type Holidays: Pricing & Availability

This latest concept follows the 2018 Citroën WildCamp, which also sought to recreate the success of the H Van. However, the WildCamp remained a concept, so we can only hope that the Type Holidays will actually come to fruition.

There’s also no word on a likely price tag for the vehicle. So, stay tuned on the Citroën website, which says the camper will be available soon.
