Pebble Flow Electric Camper Trailer: Self-Propelled, Remote-Controlled Parking
If Star Trek had a camping trailer, it would probably look a lot like this.
But there’s more than just Space Age aesthetics to the all-electric travel trailer announced last week by startup Pebble. The company aims to remove many of the “hassles” from the RV experience. Those include “insufficient energy storage, outdated tech and designs, poor towing experience, high fuel costs, and constant maintenance and safety issues,” company founder Bingrui Yang wrote on Medium.
The Flow claims to address these problems through several key features, like a motorized self-propulsion system for assisting the tow vehicle. It’s also got automated parking and hitching. Auto-leveling stabilizers and other features can be activated at the push of a button, making it ready for camping or moving in seconds, according to a press release.
“We know that for so many people, RVing is no longer just a vacation. It’s a lifestyle,” Yang wrote. “We’re here to make that lifestyle more accessible.”
Pebble Flow: Features
Designers of the Flow claim to have added features that eliminate the most stressful parts of RV travel.
That starts with the trailer’s Active Propulsion Assist System. Powered by a dual motor, the system supplies “just the right amount” of power to the towing vehicle. This removes the “range anxiety” common to towing with an electric vehicle, the company claimed.
And for those who hate trying to park a trailer, Pebble says, “Never back up again.” That’s possible because the Flow can be moved independently with a remote control. Hitching and unhitching can be accomplished automatically with the push of a button. The same goes for the awning, stairs, lights, and stabilizers once the trailer is parked in the sweet spot. It’s all available from the Pebble app.
The vehicle is also completely electric, with a 45kWh battery, universal charging options, and 1 kW of integrated solar power. Like many recent EVs, it can also be used as an emergency power source.
